Man, I hardly ever write in this journal anymore. Sure I go and read through a few select communities every day. Customers_suck, bad_service...things that make me go "...hey, too bad Big Mortgage Company has a rule against posting b/c I'd have some doozies, but I don't really post here that often.

Not that much going on, tbh. Considering new careers. Teaching, mayhap? Something beyond Big Mortgage Company.

In other news, rpage is good. I finally found a PSL to participate in. Yay! Finally found my Guy of Gisborne!

So I know I don't post very much on her, but I needed to vent. I've been in quite a few rpgs over the past five years. I've never had any problems with any mod. In fact I was usually one of the last players active in all of my games (not counting the ones I tried to start that never got off the ground). Until this game, that is. I've already ranted (perhaps not here) about how painstakingly anal they were about the length of my replies.

I've been having difficulty since Scott!mun left the game. Scott was picked up by someone else who had absolutely no interest in pursuing or being pursued by Emma. Which left her kind of in the lurch, without a real role. I'd picked up Paige Guthrie, and interacted with Sam who...kind of disappeared off the nets. And then today I get this email. Posted in it's entirety.

Well I had my final interview for Wells Fargo today. I had to speak Spanish for fifteen or twenty minutes. I don't know how it went. I know that I hestitated a lot. And I'm not sure that my grammar was exactly par for the course, either. :( I'm embarrassed that I have a B.A. in Spanish and an M.A. in Translation, but I can't think of the word for pan or lightbulb. :(

Grr. The urge to strangle my students growing...

You know, I like to think that I am a pretty easy-going girl. Go with the flow and all that. But today is pushing me to my limits. I got to the college around noon for a nice, lovely 1 hour tutoring session from 12:30 to 1:30. In Accounting. My favorite subject. Around 12:40, I call the girl and get, "Oh...I forgot to call you. We had a test today. I don't need help." Grr.

But okay, fine, whatever. I decide to stick around the library for the next four hours, rather than driving to and fro and waisting gas. (Besides which, I had an excellent spot in the parking lot right near the library, and when I get out of here at 8:30, the lots are deserted and it's pitch black. Not exactly comfortable) So I hang around for four hours, reading things like A Doll's House and an autobiography of Collette, and slowly going out of my mind... And 4:30 comes and goes, with no next student. So I call her, and say, "Hey, we were supposed to meet ten minutes ago." "...Oh, I meant to call you earlier." "So you can't come today?" "I meant to call you earlier." "So you can't come?!" "...No." [all in heavily accented English, as she's an ESL student] Fine. Whatever. I'll just sit here two more hours...that won't make any more difference, right?

Two hours later, it's time for my next appointment. :( But don't feel too bad, I managed to soak up some Italian. [Buno giorno, me chiamo Amanda! Sono americana!] Maybe next time this happens, I'll head for the Latin. For some reason, they don't have Russian textbooks...even though they teach Russian here.

So apparently my dad is the sheep whisperer. Or he's got some kind of ESP. It's uncanny. Friday night he said, "I think Bitty will have her babies tonight." Saturday morning we go out to the barn to find that Bitty had, in fact, given birth to two baby boys (Obaama and Baaden). Last night, "I think Grace is next." And sure enough, this morning, we go out to the barn to find that Grace has given birth to two baby girls (Knit and Crochet). For pictures, check facebook.

So when last we saw my quest for health insurance, I had appealed BlueCross BlueShield's decision to not insure me. Today I got the reply. I've been turned down again, not only because I'm fat, but because I have seasonal allergies. I fucking hate the insurance industry.

I'm just gonna go cry now.

[info]littledarkvoice gave me: American Girls, historical fiction, Diana Rigg, swing music, and diners

American Girls My sister Katie got Samantha for Christmas when she was nine. I was four and got Teddy Ruxpin. And proceeded to pout for the next three years until I got one for Christmas when I was seven. This was back when there were only three of them, and I decided that I wanted Molly. Possibly because I didn't want a blonde-haired, blue-eyed doll...and Samantha was taken. A few months before Christmas? Disaster struck. Felicity Merriman came out. And I was torn between Molly (because I had a fascination with glasses...even though I didn't wear them then) and Felicity (since I grew up going to Williamsburg every other year. I chose Felicity. And proceeded to get most of her clothes and a friend for her (GT7) over the next five years. And then I got too cool for American Girls (even though I played with Barbies forever) and didn't pick the habit back up until a few years ago. When I had disposable income. And was able to buy Josefina, Kirsten, Addy, and a Girl of Today that I made into Anastasia.

Historical fiction I've always preferred historical fiction. From the Blossom Culp and Little House books when I was like 7 to Ann Rinaldi which I still occasionally read, I much preferred reading about girls who liked things that I liked, ie: dresses, sewing, the politics of yesteryear. In fact, I just found this great writer...I picked up a book by 'Ann Dukthas'. Historical murder mystery! Ghost written by Paul Doherty. He's written like fifty books and has a Ph.D. in history. It combines my love of things like NCIS and CSI and historical fiction! So far I've read ones with Mary, Queen of Scots, Elizabeth I and the Austro-Hungarian heir to the throne who shot himself and his mistress. Supposedly. Cue dramatic music! He's also written medieval ones and things set in Ancient Rome and Egypt.

Diana Rigg When I was thirteen and impressionable, the Avengers movie came out. I thought it was pretty good, though Mom said it was nothing beside the original series. So I was able to rent the series when it came out a few months later. And I found my hero. Diana Rigg as Mrs. Emma Peel. An intelligent woman who can beat up the baddies while still looking sixties chic. So I started looking up other movies she'd done. On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Great Muppet Caper, the Mrs. Bradley Mysteries... I wanted to be her. Well...Mrs. Peel. Same thing in my mind. I still adore Dame Diana. She's a classy broad, who knows how to make fun of herself (Re: the Extras episode where Daniel Radcliffe accidentally shoots a condom onto her head), and who is a wonderfully talented actress.

Swing music You know, I don't think I used to listen to much swing music. As most children of the 90s, I grew up listening to oldies like The Beatles. And then I won the eighth grade dance competition in gym. Amazingly I got paired with someone taller than me (no easy feat when you're 5'9 and most of the guys are around shoulder height at that point), and someone who could dance. And someone I had a crush on. We had to waltz, foxtrot, polka and swing dance. And we were good. And won tickets to the movies. I hunted down a CD with the winning swing dance song on it (In the Mood), and my aunt gave me some more CDs later. And my two loves combined in when The Doctor swing danced. Yay.

Diners I adore diners. They're so cute and kitschy. Plus there's always a huge variety of food and everyone can find something to eat. Plus the desserts.... My favorite is, of course, the Double T, but there's a special place in my heart for this Indian diner in Baltimore and Ma Fischer's...right across the street from my dorm in WI. Yum.

So I went and spent the night at my sister's apartment last night. We went and saw Doubt (meh, it was okay), and she spilled the beans (don't tell my mother) that she thinks she and Mario will probably be getting married within the next year or two. Which...seems kinda weird to me. I mean, yeah, she's 28, but she's my sister...I never really think of her as that old (though older than me). But if she does get married, guess who get's to be Maid of Honor :)

In other news...we'd left my car at the Maryland Food Bank last night, and took her car into the city. Good thing we did because my car wouldn't start again this morning. So. Mad. So we called AAA, they towed it to her garage and hopefully we can get this all straightened out, because it's really starting to get on my last fucking nerve. What's the use of having a car if I can't drive it anywhere and get antsy when I do? I'm just waiting for it to break down, really. :(

Sigh. That's all for now. Maybe I'll be back on the farm this afternoon. If not, I'll be in B-more.

Update: I'm back at the farm...car-less. Apparently my spark plugs were worn out...that's why the car wouldn't start. Also I had a leak in my engine coolant. It just makes me wonder how closely the other garage we took it to looked. I mean...we got a call from them saying, "It's starting...we don't know." This place? We got a call saying, "It's starting, but we'll keep looking."

How cool is this? While perusing the Alexander Palace Forum, I found an image enhancer. http://morph.cs.st-andrews.ac.uk/Transformer/index.html For the curious. You can make yourself older, or a whole bunch of different styles from Botticelli to Mucha. I chose Mucha.

Writer's Block: Doctor Who? [Jan. 7th, 2009|01:02 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

26-year-old actor Matt Smith was anointed as the eleventh Doctor Who this week. If you were in charge of casting, who would you cast as your ideal Doctor and why?

Looks like a job for Erika... Though I'll do my best to answer. I don't think I would have gone so young for the next Doctor. I heard Bill Nighy was in consideration for the role. I think he's a superb actor and could have done very well in the role. Stepping into the realm of "the Beeb will never ever allow this to happen in a million years", I agree with Erika that Dame Diana Rigg would make an amazingly awesome Doctor. Also Joanna Lumley, I think could do well (judging by her appearance as the Doctor in the spoof with Rowan Atkinson and Jonathan Pryce).

In other news, I am now back to 2006 weight (as according to the copy of medical history I have) and have gone down a pants size! Gracias, Wii Fit.

So far 2009 is off to a good start. I have almost 3.5 hours logged total in the Wii, and have lost about 5 pounds (without really changing my diet...which is a good thing, I think) I have only been playing the balance/aerobic games, but I'm starting to branch out into yoga/strength training. It isn't that difficult for me, since I took a semester of yoga in undergrad, but damn the balance board. Every time I breathe, it shows a shift in balance. Still, though, apparently I have good balance. That's news to me. Still...hopefully I can actually keep some of my new year's resolutions this year.
